Why Fashion Matters?
Why Fashion Matters?
Fashion Matters. To the Economy, to Society and to each of us Individually.
Fashion is too often seen as a futile, egotistical and fleeting industry. Many people fail to appreciate just how significant and influential it really is. Faster than anything else, what we chose to put on reveals the story of who we are — or who we wish to be.
Clothes contain experiences and hold memories; they can act as an instrument to speak about our lives. What we choose to put on ourselves reflects how we look at the world and how we want the world to perceive us. Our style is linked to our very human desire to convey our uniqueness.
Fashion has the capacity to alter and shape lives through its individual connection to us all. We all need to wear clothing and every item of apparel we purchase depicts an individual decision — it is this inherently interpersonal relationship among us and our clothing that makes it ‘political’. Whether you are wearing a white knitted shirt, a printed prada t-shirt, baggy loungewear or the same black jeans every day of your life; fashion can play a crucial role in expressing your philosophy.
Fashion has been and always will be a loyal component of our lives. Clothes are fundamental to our most primary needs of heat and protection, but fashion has evolved way beyond this.
Like most other multinational industries, fashion has a grim reality. The exploitation of factory workers, absence of diversity, and environmental destruction continue to be problems that the industry must try harder to address and tackle. But this immensely creative industry has the capacity to generate meaningful changes.
In spite of its defects, one of the things fashion can do well is diffuse an idea around very effectively, intensely, and with the all-important 'cool' factor.
Fashion will persist, but what’s crucial is to build a new destiny; one where it has positive effects on the environment, society and our health.
Many individuals see fashion as short-lived and shallow but we see it as an innovative, dynamic and polymorphous industry that is fundamental to our economic and individual well-being.
