Good Morning

Good Morning

I always make time for my morning routine, as it almost always guarantees a great start to the day (even on those days where I feel a little under the weather).

So, here is what a typical morning looks like for me…

Wake Up

I usually wake up around 6.30 am. I give myself around 10 minutes to mentally wake up. In these 10 minutes, I am in a state of limbo. Half in the real world/ half in the dream world.

Wash Face

I often drink tea before bed, so if I haven't woken up already during the night to pee (which I hate), I will go straight to the bathroom to pee out last nights drinks.

Then, I splash my face with cold water to get rid of that mornings grime.

As per ayurveda, I like to scrape my tongue with a tongue scraper. In ayurveda it is believed that digestion begings in the mouth and with daily use, the scraper reduces bad breath, improves taste sensation, and overall oral health.

Make Bed

Making my bed every morning is a habit that was instilled in me at a young age. For me, it's a ritual that sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Coffee

I head to the kitchen and make a cup of coffee.

I make my coffee with a moka because I love the taste & ritual (and its a more sustainable option!).

I make sure to buy organic and low-acidity coffee.

Before my coffee is ready, I boil some water & chugg down 1/2 a liter of lukewarm water before I drink or eat anything else. That is because after 7-9 hours of not ingesting any liquids, your body is often dehydrated.

I will also take my supplements at this point. I keep a few supplements on rotation and take them on an empty stomach.

Then, when my coffee is ready, I assemble my drink and add some nut milk.

Set up my day

At this point, I head to my desk with my cup of coffee.

I start checking e-mails, skim over my to-do list and do some journaling (if I feel like it).

I use Notion to organise my work day. I absolutely love it!

Workout/Stretch

I aim to incorporate movement in the morning before I hop on the laptop and start work for the rest of the day.

Some days its a 10 minute flow, other days it's a 30 minute workout and other times it's a few deep breaths to ground me before a hyper-focused work day.

I listen to my body, therefore, my body choses what I do. Either way, a little movement helps me feel strong and energised.

Shower

I take a quick shower before I get ready for the day.

I like to wash my hair every 2-3 days, but I still enjoy to wash my body everyday as it makes me feel clean and odorless.

Get ready

Then, I get dressed for the day.

These days, my outfits are looking very comfortable...

Sweatpants or leggings, a basic shirt, a fun sweater and some cute earrings.

Breakfast

Time for breakfast! I like to switch up my breakfast quite often, but a ‘recipe’ I often come back to is a vanilla-yogurt-chia-bowl topped with seasonal fruit. I have recently learnt the importance of eating protein and fat for breakfast time, so I will usually add some protein powder to my yogurt and some nut butter to my bowl. If not, I like to make an omelette with vegetables. I love this recipe with baked aubergine and saffron.

Brush Teeth & Skincare

I finish my oral routine — brushing, flossing and rinsing my mouth.

Then, I will do some kind of a morning skincare routine — moisturiser & sunscreen for the most part.

Start work

At this point, its around 9 am.

Now that I am working from home exclusively, I create a warming and positive environment to accompany my day. I put on a song, light palo santo, my favourite incense brand, or a candle.

It's a sensorial cue that closes my morning routine and prepares me for work mode, while adding a subtle element of luxury.

Tea

After a few hours of am e-mails, team syncs, and calls, I take a few minutes to make my go-to tea, frothed with almond milk and sweetened with honey.

Thank you for joining me through my morning. Have a beautiful day!
