Mulled wine is a traditional festive drink enjoyed by people all over the world. It's extremely comforting, delicious & nostalgic.
Produce
1 bottle (750 ml) — Dry red wine (Pinot noir, chianti, merlot, malbec or cabernet sauvignon)*
1 — Orange, peeled and sliced into rounds
7 whole — Cloves
3 sticks — Cinnamon
2 star — Anise
¼ cup — Sweetener (sugar, maple syrup, date syrup)
*Choose any basic and inexpensive dry red wine — no need to splurge on anything fancy.
Specifications
Combine all of the ingredients into a medium saucepan and stir. Cook the mulled wine on medium-high heat and bring to a simmer (make sure to not boil, as you don't want to simmer off the alcohol). Once you've reached a simmer, reduce the heat to medium-low heat. Cover the pan and let the wine simmer for approximately 15 minutes, or up to 2 hours if you want your mulled wine extremely decadent with spices. Strain the concoction using a fine mesh strainer. Taste and adjust the flavour to your liking (add more sweetener if needed). Serve warm.
